Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Quark app for iOS (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”) handle your information. The short version: Quark is built to be privacy-friendly. It has no user accounts, no backend server, and no advertising or analytics tracking. Your learning progress stays on your device.
1. Controller
The data controller responsible for processing under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Finn GeertzWieselweg 11
24837 Schleswig, Germany
Email: finngeertz@gmail.com
2. Data the App processes
Stored only on your device
Quark saves your game state — XP, daily streak, hearts/lives, stars, completed levels, your chosen avatar, and your settings (language and dark mode) — locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device, is not transmitted to us, and we have no access to it. Deleting the App removes this data.
No account, no registration
The App works fully offline for learning. You do not create an account and we do not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information.
No analytics, ads, or tracking
Quark contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics or crash-tracking SDKs, and no third-party tracking technologies. We do not create user profiles and do not sell or share any personal data.
3. Content loaded from third parties (Feed)
The “Feed” section of the App can display photos that are loaded from third-party sources such as Wikimedia Commons. When such an image is loaded, your device contacts the relevant server directly, and that server will technically receive your IP address and standard request data (for example, device/browser type and time of request). We do not control this processing. Please refer to the privacy information of the respective providers, e.g. the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy.
The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in delivering the visual learning content you requested (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
4. App Store
The App is distributed through Apple’s App Store. When you download or purchase the App, Apple processes the associated data (such as your Apple Account and download/purchase records) as an independent controller. This is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We may receive anonymous, aggregated statistics from Apple (e.g. number of downloads) that do not identify individual users.
5. This website
When you visit this Site, our hosting provider may automatically process technical server-log data that your browser transmits, including your IP address, the requested page, referrer, and the date and time of the request. This is necessary to deliver the Site securely and reliably (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The Site uses no cookies and no tracking or analytics.
This Site is hosted by STRATO AG, Pascalstraße 10, 10587 Berlin, Germany, which processes the above server-log data on our behalf as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR. STRATO’s servers are located in Germany (EU), so no transfer of personal data to a third country takes place. Further information is available in STRATO’s privacy notice.
6. Storage period
Data stored locally by the App remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Server-log data of the Site is stored only for as long as needed for operation and security and is then deleted or anonymised by the hosting provider.
7. Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to:
- access your personal data (Art. 15);
- rectification (Art. 16) and erasure (Art. 17);
- restriction of processing (Art. 18);
- data portability (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21); and
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77).
Because the App itself does not collect or store personal data on our systems, most requests can be fulfilled by you directly — for example, by deleting the App. For anything else, contact us at finngeertz@gmail.com.
8. Children
Quark is suitable for a general audience, including minors. Because the App does not collect personal data, no special data is gathered from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App or legal requirements. The current version is always available on this page with the “Last updated” date above.
